English Placement Test

Overview

The BROWNS Online Placement Test (BOPT)  measures a test taker's ability in English. We use it to place our students in the right class and also as a pre-entry requirement for some English Courses that we offer.

We have integrated the BOPT with our Study Plan Designer to provide all the assistance that you need with your course selection process.

If you want to take the BOPT to know what your current English level is or you have been requested to take it by BROWNS as part of your enrolment process, please follow these steps.

  1. Go to myBROWNS and log in. If you do not have an account yet, create one here.
  2. Using the navigation menu, go to the item "Online Tests", and click on "My Tests".
  3. Click on the test "BOPT (BROWNS Online Placement Test)", and then click on Start Test
  4. After finishing the test, we will let you know when your results are ready (usually take less than a minute).

Note: If BROWNS requested you to take the test, we encourage you to contact the BROWNS staff that you are in contact with to confirm that you have finished the test.

FAQs

Q1: What should I do if my internet connection fails while I am taking the test?
A: If your internet drops out and you can reconnect quickly, the BOPT will allow you to continue from where you were. However, if you run out of time on the BOPT because of an internet failure, please contact BROWNS to enable a new test to you.
Q2: What should I do if I don't know the answer to a question?
A: You need to provide an answer to all the questions in the test. If you don't know the answer to a question, try to answer it with the best option. Remember that you cannot 'pass' or 'fail' the BOPT, it is designed to check your level of English.
Q3: How long does it take for BROWNS to get back to me after I finish the test?
A: After viewing your results, BROWNS will reply to you or your agent in one working day.
