From France to the Gold Coast: My Year in Australia
How One French Student Combined Study, Work and Travel Australia
“It has been 11 months since I arrived in Australia, and it has been an extraordinary experience. From Brisbane to Airlie Beach, via the Gold Coast, with two epic road trips along the East and West coasts, I discovered the tourism industry and the seasonality of a country very different from my native Corsica.
My passion for tourism, closely linked to event management, gradually evolved into new objectives:
- Improving my English through an intensive refresher course, with two months of study at BROWNS English Language School.
- Discovering the Australian professional environment.
I worked as a Head Waitress at the renowned Labart restaurant on the Gold Coast, voted best restaurant in Queensland. It was an unforgettable high-end service experience.
This journey has allowed me to combine travel, language learning, and professional experience in an international setting. Today, I am motivated to continue building on the skills I have developed over the past months and to pursue enriching professional experiences aligned with my passion for event management.”

J’ai travaillé comme cheffe de rang au célèbre restaurant Labart sur la Gold Coast, élu meilleur restaurant du Queensland. Ce fut une expérience de service haut de gamme inoubliable. Ce parcours m’a permis d’allier voyage, apprentissage linguistique et expérience professionnelle dans un contexte international. Aujourd’hui, je souhaite continuer à développer les compétences acquises ces derniers mois et vivre de nouvelles expériences professionnelles en lien avec ma passion pour l’événementiel. “
