What Does an English Study Tour in Australia Look Like?

What Does an English Study Tour in Australia Look Like?

French energy meets Aussie sunshine, and the result is two weeks of laughter, learning, and a lot of “wait, what does that word mean?”. Last Friday we waved goodbye to an incredible group of uni students from Marseille, France, who joined us for an English study tour in Australia, and turned our classrooms (and quite a few beaches) into their personal English playground. Here’s a look back at what they got up to.

My classes here – I can easily say we had the best English teacher I have ever had. In only two weeks, she helped us improve more than some teachers do in an entire school year. Thank you for everything.

 Maelle, France

Week 1 — Water and Wonder
Our first week dove headfirst into one of Australia’s most precious resources: water. Students unpacked the difference between present simple and continuous, wrestled with the passive voice, and got their heads around first and second conditionals. The vocabulary focused on the environment and water use across Australia, perfect prep for our excursion to the Gold Coast Desalination Plant, where they saw the science behind every drop. Back on campus, they ran their own student-led surveys, interviewing learners from other classes about water habits in their home countries: real conversations, real fluency gains, and a whole new appreciation for that morning shower.

Week 2 — Kangaroos and Conservation
Week two went wild, literally. The theme shifted to Australian animals and habitat loss, with a grammar menu of sequencing words, cause-and-effect connectors, modals of obligation, prohibition and advice, and the always-thrilling present perfect tense. Vocabulary zoomed in on iconic Aussie wildlife, the threats they face, and the role of national parks and wetlands in protecting them. The highlight? A trip to Coombabah Lakelands Conservation Area, where students spotted kangaroos in the wild and turned the open air into the most memorable lesson of the trip. To wrap things up, they designed digital posters celebrating their favourite Australian animal and filmed videos capturing their very first impressions and personal experience in Australia.
