Intensive General English

I believe that BROWNS English Language School’s (BROWNS) Intensive General English program is unique because it’s a personalised program that allows us to develop students English abilities and help them improve.

At BROWNS, in the Intensive General English program, the first two-hour class will be with the same teacher, and you will be using a text book to develop your core skills. Every Monday we will do a review test to check on the material that you studied the previous week. This allows us to check your level, your progress, and help you develop your English.

So, you can take a free BROWNS Online Placement Test (BOPT), and also, you will be tested when you arrive at the school. From the results of those tests we are able to place you in your Core Class, as well as in your Active8 classes. Now Active8 is quite unique. Each day of the week we have a two-hour lesson where we focus on a different skill, whether it’s writing, speaking and listening, grammar, vocabulary. So we are able to place you into classes that suit your level. This means you might have a different level, a different class and a different teacher on different days. For example, you might be strong in Listening and Speaking but you might need some extra work on your writing so you will be in a different level on that day.

At BROWNS, we have another unique system where we have the BROWNS Passport. So this is a document where the teacher (the Core teacher), will write messages (feedback) to the students and recommend material to help improve certain weaknesses. In our Accelerate hour, which is a free self-study hour that we have at BROWNS, we have a lot of material, grammar and vocabulary (etc) material that the students can access to help develop their skills. There are codes for each of the different modules and the students can come and study that by themselves. There is a teacher present that can answer any questions, but the students are able to study the material at their own pace.

On top of the Accelerate option, students also have other activities that they could do after/before school. A popular one is Jobs Club, so helping students prepare a resume and interview skills. We also have Conversation Club which is a relaxed, free talking activity and a range of activities as well during the week or over the weeks, including BBQ’s which are very popular, we go down to the park to play soccer or volleyball and a range of other activities that will keep them busy.

So, another benefit of studying at BROWNS I think, is the nationality range that we have, it’s a great place to make international friends. Brazilian’s, Colombian’s, Japanese, French. We have got South American’s, European students, Asian students, everyone getting along really well. It’s a nice atmosphere to study in. Small class sizes and energetic teachers that love getting involved, so I’m sure you will have fun.
